**The Process**
Bob Chase downloaded the CONGA data from a US military website prior to 9/11 when it was shut down. This gave him each shot the ship ever fired except for the shots fired at S. Vietnam for the 1972 deployment. The Navy had changed its rules and the shots we made south of the DMZ and north of Hue were not logged from late '69 onward.
Bob then compiled the data into a gigantic spreadsheet converting times to local from Zulu, converting Military coordinates (MRGS) to lat & lon, enumerated the target codes, and so on. Upon conversion, Bob found about 70 or so impossible shots listed and ignored them. These were shots that ended up many more miles inland than we could shoot or targeted a land object like a CD Site out in open ocean. Somebody had written down the wrong coordinate, either on the ship's log or the when the data was compiled into a database.
Bob then used Photoshop to lay in the targeting data with labels for the type of shot made.
